What is Kaspa

Kaspa is a decentralized, open-source, and scalable Layer-1 blockchain project. It is based on the GHOSTDAG protocol, which is a scalable generalization of the Bitcoin consensus. Kaspa bills itself as the “fastest and most scalable instant confirmation transaction layer ever built on a proof-of-work engine.”

The project was founded by Yonatan Somplinsky, who is also one of the authors of the GHOSTDAG protocol. Kaspa prides itself in being a community project - KAS was distributed via fair launch, and the project’s marketing materials maintain that Kaspa is a fully community-governed and community-funded project.

Kaspa’s native currency is KAS. KAS is used for all on-chain transactions and to distribute mining rewards. KAS is not a token - it is a Layer-1, hence references to KAS as a ‘coin’.

Kaspa has a number of features that make it unique, including:

  • Instant confirmations: Transactions are confirmed on the Kaspa blockchain in just a few seconds.
  • Scalability: Kaspa is designed to be scalable, with the ability to handle millions of transactions per second.
  • Security: Kaspa is secure, using the GHOSTDAG protocol to achieve consensus.
  • Decentralization: Kaspa is decentralized, with no central authority.

Kaspa is still under development, but it has the potential to be a major player in the blockchain space. It is a fast, scalable, and secure blockchain that is built on a strong foundation. Kaspa is a project to watch.
